More About Me

Background

I was born and educated in Shipley and studied and worked for several years in London and Birmingham before returning to West Yorkshire, where I am now based.

Initially, I trained as a professional actor and worked in the creative industries (acting, writing and directing) for over a decade before working at a leading marketing agency for 6 years, where I held marketing and people-related roles. I then moved on to studying Counselling and Psychotherapy. I believe this has helped me bring empathy,  creativity and an ‘outside the box’ quality of thinking to my work. After completing a post graduate Certificate in Counselling, I qualified in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Leeds Beckett University.

Since qualifying as a counsellor, I have gone on to complete a Masters Degree in Psychology.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP Reg: 393770), fully insured and GDPR compliant.

What You Can Expect From Working With Me

What you bring will be treated with a high level of confidentially.

We will discover and work together on achieving your goals.

I will always try to communicate honestly, transparently and with empathy.

What I Offer

My approach is tailored to you;

I use a variety of ways of helping people and will tailor the way we work together to suit you as an individual (otherwise known as integrative working). I am relationally trained and use person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT techniques as appropriate.

It is important that we work together creatively to find the best way to help you find a way forward with your issues and dilemmas.

This will always be agreed with you, and together, we will regularly check whether the therapy sessions are working for you.

What I can help with:

  • I work with a range of presenting issues, including issues related to anxiety, depression, and trauma, but also have experience working with issues relating to relationships, bereavement, identity, self-criticality, burnout neurodiversity/neurodivergence (assessed or self-identified), kink, bdsm and non-monogamy, and issues relating to working in the creative arts.

Face to Face Sessions;

I can see people in person at The Grove Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice, based in Ilkley, West Yorkshire.

Online Counselling;

Many people find online counselling very productive and convenient and I am happy to work in this way with anyone who would prefer it. I use Google Meets, and will send you a link via email for each session. All you need is a computer with a camera and a decent internet connection, just click on the link in the email at the time agreed, its as easy as that!

Cost

Current charges are £60 per 50 minute session for both in person and on line sessions. Please let me know in your initial message which you prefer.
